Women’s Action for Development (WAD), Wise Economy’s local partner in Namibia, has gained media attention in one of Namibia’s most popular newspapers: New Era. This after WAD’s graduation ceremony in Omaheke. Salatiel Shinedima, Executive Director at WAD, called for zero VAT on sanitary products, because some households spend a large amount of their income on these products and as a result have less money for school fees etc.

“Therefore, we recognize access to sanitary products such as those mentioned above as a basic human right for women because they cannot live without them.

In addition, the involvement in that campaign should go beyond providing free pads but should go as far as ensuring access to safe sanitary facilities at schools, provide menstrual hygiene management education, as well as demystify discriminatory cultural norms and beliefs about menstruation.”
